"Lincoln Jesser is 'the man' behind'the band'"

Lincoln Jesser is a 23 year-old from Indio (home of Coachella) who writes, produces and sings everything on these songs himself. He also works as a producer and guitarist for renowned Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, who he collaborated with to create a remake of George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun”, that landed as the closing song of Oliver Stone’s film “Savages” in 2012.

Below the reproduction of his The Eargazm's interview "Bands You Should Know: Lincoln Jesser":

At what point did you realize you wanted to be a musician?

When I was 13, I recorded a cover of “Green Eyes” by Coldplay for the girl I loved on an old 4-track recorder to win her heart…worked like a charm. Never looked back.

Since you grew up near Coachella I have to ask, How many years of the festival have attended?

Coincidentally, my first Coachella was when I was 13. RHCP and White Stripes. That was a life changing day. Still can’t believe my parents let me go. I’ve only missed one year since. So 8 years.

What did your parents think about your decision to turn down Yale and pursue a career in music?

They were amazing about it, never pressured me one way or the other. They’ve always taught me to live my life for me and to pursue what I love. I’m a lucky dude.

What’s your favorite song you’ve written?

I don’t know if I have a real answer to that one yet haha. Whatever I’m working on at the moment…if it’s not then I do something else. I’ve got a lot more work to do before I get to reminisce.

Are there any other bands from LA we should keep an eye out for?

My bro Justin Jay makes incredible deep, soulful house tunes. Definitely worth a listen. And my amazing friend Yuna is from Malaysia but is LA based now, her new album just came out on Verve. Kyle is the man too.

If you could perform alongside any artist or band, who would it be?

Probably Coldplay or The Killers.

What are your thoughts on the legalization of Marijuana?

Legalize it.

What is your least favorite song of all time?

“Stress” by Justice. It’s too effective. I have a mini-anxiety attack every time I hear it.

What would you choose for your last meal?

A sushi assortment custom-made for me by the world’s most respected master sushi chef (Watch “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”)
